A Day at Sea on our way to Israel
21stAugust 2018
We are all at sea today on the way to Haifa. It is nice to have a relaxing day on very flat seas, the strong winds having disappeared for the time being.
With no urgency to get up early, we had a late breakfast and a bit of exercise doing laps walking around the deck for 3 miles, in very pleasant outside temperatures.
There are several organized activities on board and we have opted to attend a lecture at 1pm on Arabic culture and one later on this afternoon at 5pm on Israel, and the 3 key religions that have shaped the culture of the region.
For something different, we decided to have lunch at Mamsen’s , a small restaurant devoted to Nordic food. It was simple food done extremely well. We all had some soup, open sandwiches, and a few tasty desserts in and environment that was not crowded looking out to sea over the bow of the ship.
Filling in time in the afternoon, we went up to the Wintergarden , an indoor area on the same level of the pool, so sit back and read, or catch up with French lessons (Sharon) or do a bit of watercolor panting (John). Whilst there we were caught up in the afternoon tea ritual, with high tea being served to everyone in that area.
It was then back to our usual routine of 6.30pm pre dinner drinks, and tonight we ate in the main restaurant. The lobster bisque entrée and Venison main course were pretty acceptable.
Tomorrow we will berth at Haifa at 7am and or on a tour to Jerusalem and Bethlehem. It will be a long day, but the itinerary looks very good.
